New League

The Gibbons Pioneers, along with the other teams from the GMHL West Division, have joined a new league - the National Junior A Hockey League (NJHL). The new organization will focus on operating at higher standards and having proper policies in place to govern and hold the league, and organizations within, more accountable. The new league will be governed, in part, by representatives from each member team as well as members of the community, who will outline new standards for league policies and procedures, player safety initiatives, transparent insurance policies, disciplinary protocols, education support and live streaming and media coverage. Veteran Goaltender Nate Williams said of the announcement, "I came to the GMHL despite all of the complaints about it. I didn't come for the league, I came for the coaching of Steve Arsenault. Playing for the Pioneers was a once in a lifetime experience. Even though we didn't win many games, we all improved as players and as a team. Steve took a crumbling organization and gave it a foundation to work off and build on for years to come. I really see a huge improvement coming to the Pioneers in the years to come." The Pioneers are hosting a combined tryout camp with the Edson Eagles on June 2-3, 2023 in Gibbons. There are a few remaining spaces available. Registration can be found here.
